The Alley Loop is a unique and fun experience like no other! The course is an American Birkebeiner Qualifier, but it also allows skiers to be in the heart of downtown Crested Butte, which adds a special element to the race. You can expect to ski past all sorts of interesting sights, including alley parties, oompa loompas, and people connected by costumes. It’s an exciting and enjoyable atmosphere, so make sure to check it out if you get the chance!
You’ll have to be prepared for some tricky passes and the possibility of getting stuck on a bridge, but the rewards are worth it. Once you make it out of the town, you’ll be rewarded with some stunning scenery and an epic experience. So if you’re up for an adventure and don’t mind the challenge, then this race is definitely right up your alley!
The Alley Loop has races ranging in length from 1km all the way up to 42km. In miles that’s nearly a marathon! For the longer races the competition is fierce, and colleges from all over the Rockies come out for the 21km collegiate race. While I’m sure the longer races are fun for the competitors, it’s the short races that are the most fun for the spectators. The 5km and 10km races are more about the costume competition than the speed, and this year was no exception.
The Alley Loop is a great way for kids to get some exercise! They offer both a 1k and 3k option, so you can choose the distance that works best for your little one. It’s a fun and safe way to let them get some fresh air and have an adventure!
